Fairbanks Morse Z

Hello,

I just finished restoring my 1939 Farmall A tractor and now I'm starting on a F-M Model Z engine. I have never rebuilt one of these, but then again, I never rebuilt a tractor either. So I'm looking for recommendations on places to get parts and probably a manual if they exist.

My first question is, how can I find out when this engine was built or is that wishful thinking? I'm also posting a couple of pictures of my engine before I get started.

If you're interested you can see pictures of my A at the following site:

Fairbanks Morse still exists and as late as a couple of years ago people who contacted the company archivist were sometimes able to get some information on their engine. Haven't heard of anyone doing that lately, but it might be worth a try.

They have a webpage listing suppliers of parts for their legacy engines, as well.
