Information on Coleman 3000 Watt Generator

I currently trying to work on my Coleman 3000 watt generator with 8hp Briggs & Stratton motor. Had to take apart and clean carb as it wouldn't start. Now need to get the governor set correct. When I start it the throttle plate is wide open, that doesn't seem to be right. If any one has any pictures of how the governor linkage should be and the procedure for setting the running speed and governor, I would greatly appreciate it. I would think that when the unit is running without a load the throttle should not be wide open. I would think the governor would open the throttle to maintain steady RPM and output as a load is placed on the unit.

Thanks,
Bill

WHY would you NOT expect the throttle butterfly to be wide open at startup????

If you need more help, find the ENGINE model #, etc, and search the 'net (GOOGLE)based on that info.

On most engine governors, a spring open the throttle plate, the governor closes it. When the engine is NOT running the governor mechanism Does NOT have any energy to overcome the spring so the throttle plate will be wide open. Start the engine, set the generators output frequency to to about 62 HZ no load. You can use a KILL-A-WATT to set the frequency. The output frequency of the generator is DIRECTLY related to the engines RPM
