Hit and miss engine in a boat

A friend of mine and I wanted to build a steam launch but found that the steam engine will be cost prohibitive to procure. So we got to thinking about using a hit and miss engine for the power source. Anybody know anything about this being done? If so, what type engines were used? This will not be a big boat just something to cruise around a lake a bit. Thanks

Old marine engine collecting is a specific
offshoot of hit and miss engine collecting.
I"ve seen them at the larger engine shows.
They usually had lots of brass...brass flywheels,
brass mixers,(carbs) Fid an issue of
"Gas Engine Magazine" and you"ll find references,
or engines for sale

Go to www.oldmarineengine.com and look around. Most marine engines used one smaller in diameter flywheel so the engine could fit lower in a boat.
