Well, I have to say it is not totally slow connections, it's also that the server does get flooded with database requests and the database will hang for a few seconds when it runs out of connections. I see that at least once a day, if you are hitting it at that time, it will drop the cookie. It's been pretty good for a few months now, but illicit traffic is up. We are blocking it, but even that takes database connections and can run the server down.
It makes it worse with a slow connection though, because there is more chance of the two working together when a momentary hang occurs.
