Email problems

We have some email problems from the classic forum server. We lost our DNS server again and I've got to find a new one. AOL, Comcast and few other ISPs are rejecting messages sent with "Send Email" in the forums, and hauling and classifieds, due to our host not having it's address listed in what's called a reverse lookup (it's like a reverse lookup phone directory only for the internet). I'm going to try and find another computer tomorrow to once again replace this one.
If you recall, this happened a couple of months ago and we replaced one 10 year old computer, with another 10 year old computer. Going to try and find something newer so we don't have this happening again.
Anyway, a lot of the mail gets through, but nothing for AOL, Comcast and others who do this reverse lookup as a way of trying to see if the message is spam. It's not an effective way any more, but they still do it as do many.

You'll have to email me the details of who you contacted and about what time.
The email is working, I just tested it. That doesn't mean the email to everywhere else is working. It just means that to the providers I can test with, it works. It's also dependent on the other side working.
Some email providers will reject messages out of hand if they come obviously from a server (which our emails do and we don't obfuscate them to make them look like they are from an individual). Others may treat such emails differently. With yahoo, for example, email from YT will go automatically into the users junk mail folder, they have to know to check junk mail occasionally for all such emails that come through forums or even shopping cart transactions (anything generated by a server). In another example, earthlink customers will never receive an email from a server if they have the option set on that requires verification. The server can't verify the transaction. There are so many different possibilities that I can't describe them all.
There is one new possible problem. Since Modern View now supports email too, it depends on the users email address being correct in the username database (the profile). Most unfortunately aren't. It will let you send, but the address will have long since become stale and it doesn't go anywhere.

I will research the specific ones you tried though if you like.

I was able to get it running and then it crashed again. That machine won't stay running. I will have the new one in late tomorrow morning, working on getting it ready now. Hopefully that will be the end of it.

You are right, looks like that server went down again. I have another ready to replace it (almost). It will be fixed by tomorrow for sure.

Thanks for pointing it out, I didn't even know the ailing one had crashed again.

I guess your still having problems with the e-mail stuff since I have not seen an e-mail in the last 24 hours letting me know a person has answered a post of mine. Right??
