If you are logged out, no one's email link will show up to you. We have to do that on purpose because fraudsters, spammers and trolls will use the site to send bulk mailings. You have to be a member and logged in, to see the email links. It's not perfect, but it's better than it was when we let the entire internet send mail to people who opened up their mail.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

So if two people are trying to correspond with the email buttons, both have to be logged in in order to see each others email button?

If I am logged in and leave the site does it automatically log me out? That is how it seems to work to me.

It doesn't automatically log you out, though your browser or security software may do that. Privacy modes delete cookies after a session is done. They do that because some people don't want other people to know where they've been on the net, if more than one person shares the computer. For YT people, that's obviously not a useful feature, but it's a part of security and browser configuration. Often people who set up computers for you will turn it on in the name of security. If you configure your own computer, just turn off any cache and cookie clearing options on the browser, usually they have some name related to "privacy". Your security software may do it too. I wouldn't know what to look for there since there are 100s of different programs out there.

Sometimes, if your network connection is poor, your cookie will get cleared rather than set when our server tries to refresh it. When that happens, I have to relogin, but most of the time, the cookie just stays there from session to session. With Classic View, it tends to stay forever, with Modern, it's more likely since it's a little slower. Also, when you log into Modern View, be sure to click the checkbox that says to stay logged in.

But yes, both have to be logged in to see the "Send Email" links (button on Modern View). Otherwise, anyone on the net could start sending you email after email via that link. Just for that reason, it's getting pretty rare to find a site that lets non-logged in users send email to other users.
