Where to start? Need help...

I inherited this machine and need help understanding what I have and how to get parts for it.

A mechanic gave me a laundry list of homework to do before he will come back to try and get it running. Question 1 - Can anyone tell me anything based on the data plate numbers besides its a 270 Series A?

Question 2 - Without the manual, how can I figure out what the part number is for the starter and injector pump that is in the machine?

Question 3 - Where the heck can I find a rebuilder for the injector pump or buy a rebuilt one?

Question 4 - I think this machine has a Bosch CR injector pump but have no idea if thats true. Is there any way to tell for sure before I get myself involved in the WRONG pump part number for a purchase or rebuild?

This machine is on 20 acres in Nikiski, AK I am homesteading. I desperately need this running before winter sets in! Dave

Ill bet that if you had the loader jacked up to allow access to the motor when the mechanic came that it would be running now. Don't condemn that poor injector pump and starter until you determine that you even have fuel to the pump and voltage to the starter.

Right! Not a diesel mechanic myself but he did exactly that. It turned over a few times but needs a known good battery and filters. The stud on the solenoid is stripped so not a good way to start pun intended.

I am hoping someone can tell me something about the machine based on that data plate I cant find a decoder for. Year? Engine type? basics...

Hello eng welcome to YT! I am going to stick my neck
out a bit and say you have a bit of a red-headed step
child there as far as IH machines. I am fairly sure that
machine is from the Dresser era. When Dresser bought
out some of IHs industrial lines, but mainly wanted the
small crawler line. Some other things came along with
it like industrial tractor, backhoes wheel loaders and
other stuff I cannot list. In most cases especially on IH
ag equipment you can go on line and find the parts
diagrams and parts listings. That is not the case with
your tractor. However, since IH used the engine in
other machines it is listed it as the D-268, see
attached link. The click on the complete machine to
see the subsection break downs. The second link is a
link to some general info on your tractor. If you did
much searching on your tractor model you probably
came across the Tractordata page for it. I will link it as
well.
As far as your injection pump there is a poster on here
that goes by Dieseltech. He is in the state of Indiana.
You can ship your pump to him for repair. As far as
other parts I cannot help you beyond using a web
search with the tractor model and part needed.

Ah yes! the world of German part numbering systems... So now the bad news. Now I have to try and understand which one of the three starter and injector pump models I have. Well at least I am on the trail thanks to you. Any help decoding the data plate? Year made? Plant?

Huh, the private message thing doesnt seem to work so I cant send used red MN or Dieseltech a message about my pump questions. Odd. Do I not have permission to PM?

Unfortunately the PM feature is disabled on the two forums due to a conflict between the Modern View and
Classic View versions.

Anyways, you have to use the blind email feature instead, if the user has it turned on.

The fun part is you have to find a post by the poster you want to email.
Then in their post at the bottom left or bottom right (Modern View or Classic View) is the email button.

Which takes you to a blind email relay form to fill out.

Sorry to say but it is a Rube Goldberg way of communication between posters.
