Valmet 502 wont start without starting fluid. Runs perfe

So I have a Valmet 502, (1977). It smokes alot when starting but not when Running.im kind of new to tractor engines so I was hoping it was posible to get some help here.

Hello ..Just a .. welcome to YT! Not sure how much
help you will get here, these forums deal mostly with
US built machines, there are a few that have some
knowledge in foreign machines. In general concerning
diesels unfortunately the problem you are having is
often a symptom of a worn out engine that is lacking
adequate cylinder compression. The engine should
have a crankcase vent usually points down along side
the engine. If a fair bit or vapors are coming out of it as
in maybe enough to disturb dust on the ground that
would be a second indication of quite a bit of engine
wear. Lastly, how fast the engine is being cranked by
the starter also plays a part in how well it starts. It is
typical of a diesel to run fine once started even if the
engine has a lot of wear. I will attach link with info
about your tractor so others have an idea of what you
have.

probably should of said something more, but i was typing on the phone which I don't have enough patience to do. it will start after a lot of cranking or if it has run itself warm.theres good speed on the starter.
