Converting gas MF135 from generator to alternator. Need wiring diagram. Have installed alternator but not wired right as ignition switch doesn't engage starter.

Welcome to the Forums.

The MF 135 Operator's manual has a wiring diagrams for the original alternators used with gas and diesels. Those were externally regulated. You haven't said what you are using for an alternator.

If you did away with the generator and its regulator you likely have removed power from the key switch. The wiring diagram will give you info on the wire to the key switch that must have power. Do you have a test light and/or voltmeter to test with? Start by checking to see if you have battery power on the battery terminal of the switch.

Here is a link to a copy of a 135 Operator's manual you can download and save. Wiring diagrams are on page 53.

Hello bc welcome to YT! If you are not rewinding the tractor you got a little snip happy and cut out a wire you needed. I do not know Masseys that well but the diagrams Jim posted show alternators for both gas and diesel. It may be that the earlier models of those tractors had a generator. In either case it looks like you disconnected the 10 ga wire shown connecting to the upper terminal of the ammeter and over to the live battery post on the starter solenoid. This should bring power across the ammeter and over to the switch. Of course there could be multiple things not connected properly, causing your problem.

I found I have a MF50 operator's manual. The wiring diagram in it should be the same as a MF35 which is the MF135 forerunner. It shows a generator and regulator. You can see the ignition switch "B" terminal received power from the "L" terminal of the regulator. If you did away with the regulator you need to power the ignition switch "B" terminal from the ammeter as shown in the MF135 drawings.

Without knowing just what you have or have not removed, changed, or added for wiring it is hard to say what you need to do to fix the problem. The different drawings should help you sort it out. You could sketch what you have done for wiring, and post a picture of the sketch, and we might see the problem.
