White 4-180 pto case removal.

Trying to remove the pto case on the rear end of a 4-180. We have it loose, but there seems to be something preventing it from sliding out. The shop manual we have is very vague. All the info I can find online or on YouTube are for the 2wd whites/Oliver s/mms and those show removing the pto drive shaft from the rear before removing the pto case. The 4wds pto drive shaft doesn t appear to be removed in the same manner. The best we can determine is that we need to disconnect the pto drive line in the center and pull the shaft out the front of the rear end.
Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

You should post this down the list further in the Oliver section. Anyway, looking at the parts manual, it should have a snap ring, then the plug and then the O ring same as two-
wheel drives. Did you remove the upper cover, remove the snap ring, then pull the plug, then the Oring and then pull the shaft? I believe it's a 1/2 course thread about 7 minimum
length that you thread into the plug and then shaft to pull it out. You may have to rotate it to align the splines when it slides out through the pump drive and PTO drive hubs. I have never been in one, but that is sure how it
looks to me.

Go to the Agco parts book web site, look
up under 4-180 sections 102 and 208. Under
208, it looks like you will have to unbolt
the drive shaft, the four bolts holding it to the flange and under that is
the nut that holds the shaft from sliding
out the rear. I should have seen this
before my other post.

Ok. I ll check the AGCO parts diagram. Didn t think to post it in the Oliver forum.
We removed the plate above the pto shaft, removed the snap ring, o ring and plug. However there is no threaded hole in the pto drive shaft to pull it out the back like the 2wds. When we try to pull the pto case it stops about 2" out like it s catching on something. I m thinking that the shaft is not letting it drop and rotate, seems like I d read somewhere it needs to rotate up to be removed. That s why I m thinking the shaft needs to be pulled through the front of the housing in order to get the pto case removed. But I wanted to do some more research before I did anything wrong. Thanks !

The way the splines are on the shaft, I
doubt it would come out the front, unless
you remove the carrier bearing housing and
took it all out as a unit. But, maybe you
could push out the rear, with the nut off.
