Restoring an old 8N. When I put the radiator cap on and turn it it doesn t align properly with the ridge on the cap straight down the hood. Tried to file it some but that didn t seem to work. Any ideas on what the problem might be or how to fix this issue?

''Any ideas on what the problem might be''

I would ASSUME the problem is that the cap and/or the radiator came from ''The Land of Almost Right'' and no one realized the cap and/or filler neck need to be ''indexed''.

If you know how to solder, it would be a relatively simple matter to warm up the filler neck and rotate it.

I think the cap and decorative top are spot welded together, an ''adjustment'' could be made there, as well if you know of a handy place with a spot welder.

nd I was about to suggest that maybe the hood was on at an angle!

I've had that problem with aftermarket radiators. The solution was to heat the radiator neck with a propane torch and turn it.
