Case 2290 pto rebuild

I have a case 2290 that is leaking oil
from the pto shaft. I read somewhere that
if if it's leaking from the seal them
that's just what's needed to be replaced
but if it's leaking from right by the pto
shaft then you need to rebuild the pto to
replace some O-rings that are in there.
Has anyone done this and can give me some
pointers on what to buy? They don't sell a
seal kit that the dealer can find and I
don't want to just buy random parts. I
don't have a shop so everything is done
outside so pulling it then waiting for
parts isn't something I try to do. Thanks
in advance!

So you are saying that it leaks past the splines of the changeable shaft, rather that at the larger seal that seals the hollow shaft?

If the O-ring is what's leaking, for sure the housing would have to come off, not a bad job, just HEAVY an the oil will need to be drained.

Correct it's leaking from the splines and not the larger seal. I heard if you parked it on a hill it didn't drain that much oil out. It's crazy to think you have to pull that out just to change one o-ring
