Anyone have experience replacing this seal. I have an I&T repair manual (Haynes). It shows that you have to remove the rockshaft housing and the complete left final drive and wheel to do it. Seems like a crazy amount of work to replace a $7 seal. I have removed the snap ring from the outer shaft and removed the 4 bolts holding the retainer casting. I then threaded a couple of bolts through to push the retainer casting off, but it doesn't budge. I didn't want to use too much pressure for fear of breaking something. Thanks for your input! Alan

I have the Deere tech manual in a PDF that you're welcome to, just shoot me an email, mine is open-

from what I read all that top and side housing removal is for removing the shaft, that isn't needed for seal replacement. I think you will find that the seal retainer is just well glued to the rear housing. You might try rapping the seal plate
with a brass punch or a piece of wood to twist it to break it free. No matter what you do, be careful, that retainer is no longer available from Deere, so you don't want to break it. Tapping a thin scraper into the seam may do it also get it loose, but, you can only drive it in a tiny bit as there is a step machined into the retainer (see picture)also note that there is an o-ring that I'd also replace to prevent a new leak

Thanks Joe! Your answer certainly makes sense. I do have a new O-ring along with the seal. The retainer does rotate when I tap it, but it didn't pop loose. I'll let you know how it goes and I will be especially careful not to break the retainer. I sent you an email.
