330 utility trans issues

58 330 has been having some issues getting locked up in 3ed. I pulled the shifter assy. and replaced shift lever with a good used one. Also found one missing and two broken poppet springs. Replaced springs and re assembled. After doing that shifter would not go into any gear. I then removed all springs and it easily moved thru all gears. I then replaced all springs with weaker springs and it seems to work at least some better. As much as I can see the trans looks clean and I see no rust. So my question is, what is all this telling me? Bad shift forks, rails or poppet balls? Any help is very appreciated.

Does the TA work in this tractor? Do you find that
when you push the clutch in at times it seems hard to
get out of gear? This can be caused by improper
adjustment of the clutch and TA. I cannot tell you the
proper process for that I will have to do some looking
tomorrow and get back to you. There is a connecting
link between the clutch release lever on the side of the
housing and the TA release levers. When then clutch is
fully depressed it also releases the direct TA dry clutch
to avoid binding due to the one way clutch in the TA.
However, if your TA will not pull in the Lo side that is
lever back position, then this problem is eliminated. So
you are confident the replacement shifter was not very
worn on the tip? Not sure how hard it is to pull it on a
utility, but in the link is an older YT post the last reply
shows a picture and dimensions of the tip. I will say
that this information applies to Farmall row crops but I
am somewhat certain it is the same for utilities.

Just a tip for future reference I would suggest you post
on this tractor in the Farmall and IH topic section. I will
post a link to it as well.

Thank you for responding, I am new here and am not very savvy with this tec stuff so I appreciate any guidance My 330 utility is one of apparently few w/o TA.
I am not 100% sure about the condition of the used shifter I bought. It appears to be in good shape. I can not seem to find the link to the pic and measurements you spoke of. I will look again. Thank you again for your help

The links should be at the bottom of my reply, you
double-click the actual short description phrases. I do
not think there is a browser setting that could block
them from appearing, or at least one I have ever heard
of.

I found the pic of shifter dimensions. Thank you for that. I believe even my org. shifter was not in that bad of shape. I mentioned b4 that I had installed weaker poppet springs.
So I worked the tractor a bit today with the weaker springs and I was able to use all gears. Although it was a bit difficult to get out of 4 th but all in all much better. I know there is still some issue but at least this buys me a little time.
Thank you, and I will get the hang of this site sooner or latter!!
