Rusty gas tank on Farmall Cub

Hi
I have a 1948 Farmall Cub with a rusty gas tank.
I would like to know the best way to remove interior rust?
What is the best product to use for sealing the tank after rust removal?
Am more confused after looking at how to video's on YouTube as solutions vary widely.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Get one of these model T ford strainers an put it in the sediment bowl intake at the bottom of the tank. This will only allow fuel to enter from higher than the rust. Then run it and as the rust piles up in the bottom of the tank siphon it out.
one example

clean the fuel out of it to where it has almost no gas smell first. Then put a bunch of nuts and bolts in the tank and carry the tank in the back of a pickup and let it bounce around for a couple days. Then blow the rust dust out of the tank with compressed air. Then pour some white vinegar in the tank and slosh it around and let is soak for about a half hour and drain out. Then rinse it out with water, power washer if you can get in there. Then dry it out as quick as you can, you might go over the exterior with a heat gun. Once you get it free of rust treat the tank with a fuel tank liner such as Red Kote to prevent it from rusting again. If there is a few pin holes the tank liner will take care of it.

If you dont want to tackle it I suggest
I send my fuel tanks to

Depends on how rusty it is...

If it's seriously rusted, and at that age no reason to believe it's not, the best solution is to find a new aftermarket tank.

Cleaning it will likely only be a temporary fix, and probably start some pin hole leaks. Dealing with a rust flaking tank is a no win situation.

Lining it, some swear by it, I personally have not tried because of the failure stories I've heard.

Another alternative is to cut the bottom out and replace the metal. Something best done by a pro with the proper equipment and experience.

Yes a good solution. I think I will use the raised pickup as you suggested
Trying to get kill the rust permanently so as to prevent pin holes in the tank.

He also does radiators, people that service radiators are very hard to find . Lost mine in Erie last year ,or contact Tracy to get his opinion before I send them .
I recommend you do a flow test on Your radiator also just to protect all your hard work .

i have installed liners myself. cleaning and prepping is time consuming and messy. if it is not done right the liner will fail. take 560dennis advise and have it done professionally.. last one i had done was from elburn radiator in elburn illinois. i think it was around 200. as the cub fuel tank is part of the hood assembly, there are no aftermarket tanks that i am aware of.
