Brass or Bronze or....?

Massey 555

This was the bushing that was pressed into the steering support assembly. It's wore oblong and should be replaced. It has a slight coppery sheen to it. Is this bronze? The parts
book doesn't give that information.

Thanks

John

hey are 'Oilite' oil impregnated sintered bronze.

Link: Sintered bronze is made from powdered bronze by pressing the powder and heating it until it starts to fuse together. The result is fairly strong and porous so it can soak up oil. The bearings are self lubricating as the oil slowly seeps out in service. The link explains it better.

A sleeve is always bronze. They hold oil for a very long time even with little maintenance. Brass wouldn't hold oil and would just sit there and wear. Of course that would be an improvement over today's plastic.
