Sediment bowl snapped off

Hi, I was trying to remove my sediment bowl assembly from the tank and the old one snapped off leaving most of it still threaded and jammed in the tank opening. Is there anyway to get this out or do I need a whole new tank. Thanks for any ideas.

What are you working on? Guessing it is the same as used in one's handle is not always a sure thing, best you tell what it is.

Removal methods are about the same for any threaded connection, in this case avoid heat unless you do a lot of cleaning to rid the tank of fumes. You may want to remove the tank to position it better to work on. You can carefully drill through the broken stub enlarging until you are close to the threads in the tank then break the remaining pieces out of the tank threads with a fine pointed chisel/punch. You may be able to clear it with a tap if you have drilled to the right size hole for the tap.

It can probably be removed with an extractor.

There are straight flute extractors made for removing broken pipe
fittings.

Use the largest one that will go in, and use good judgment. The last thing
you want is to break it off in there!

If you try drilling it out, be extremely careful not to get off center and
damage the threads!

If you chase the threads with a taper pipe tap, never screw the tap in all
the way, doing that will oversize the hole. General rule, leave the last 6
threads exposed.

I dont think that you need a new tank . Should be able to use advice mentioned and have removed. Take your time , maybe take tank off that

Tractor to a shop nearby if you dont have tools mentioned.

Hello David welcome to YT! Is there any stub sticking
out? If so if it is an 1/8 inch or more I would try a vise
grip first. Not any elcheapo one with worn out jaws, I
am talking about a genuine 10 in. Vise-Grip locking
pliers ..now Irwin.. like in the link. I think Lowes might
sell them. Otherwise it is down to drilling out or you
can cut down a hack saw blade with an abrasive cut of
wheel or Dremel and get you a blade holder. Then cut
through it just down to the threads on two places
about 180 degrees apart. Then knock what is left out
with a chisel.

Thank you all for the recommendations, I just finished work and will tackle the job tomorrow morning. I think with all this information I should be able to get it done. I will let you know how it goes and what worked to get it out. Thanks

he broken fitting must have a hole through the center for the fuel. If so, no problem centering a drill or just running a tap through the hole if it's big enough. If the fitting is brass it should be easy to drill and tap. And since tank is probably still on the tractor, you will need a right angle drill adapter.

Tap the hole. Run a nut onto a bolt. Thread in the bolt. Tighten the nut against the broken fitting to lock the bolt to the fitting and back it out.
