Ford 861 3 pt. hydraulic problem

3 pt. hitch will not move up. I felt the hydraulic piston cylinder and it is smooth, so I did not remove the piston. I removed the hex head plug on top of the hydraulic pump and I have lots of oil.
Cam pin is showing little wear. With tractor running, and me raising the arms up and down, I can hear and feel the ram arm riding back and forth with no resistance. The piston is not moving up against the ram arm, So what do I have: Unloader valve problem? Control valve problem? Thank you, Ken

cONTROL VALVE COULD BE STUCK BUT YOU CAN REACH IN AND TRY MOVING IT BY HAND to know for sure or yes the unloader valve may not be moving

On both sides is a plate you can take off and reach into. One is the engagement lever plate and the other the dipstick plate

We do not see a plate around either one ???? We do not see anything convenient to reach into the controls.

On both sides there is a round plate. One has the PTO shiftier on it and the other side has the hyd dipstick on it.

I know they are there because I own an 841S which is the same series as your 861. But my tractor has a 4 speed and a 3 speed Sherman combo and your is a 5 speed with 2 stage clutch giving it live PTO. As your sitting on your tractor the plates will be just aft of your right and left heel

Tractor Guru, I sent you a few pictures. I still can not see where I can get in. Could I stick a screw driver or something into the fill opening round opening and try to move the cylinder? Please answer. Ken

expect that his memory is off a bit & is remembering a different tractor, such as the "N" series or other. Maybe try big screw driver via fill port.

I will try the screwdriver tomorrow morning.

By chance would you know what weight of oil we should we put in the rear axle crankcase? Ken

an't really help you much on lube type. I believe the xmission, hyd, diff are each sealed from one another and that seals go bad and all 3 mix, leading folks to use a universal hyd fluid in all three, but I'm not positive, so maybe someone that knows for sure will help you. You will find the best help on the Ford forum.

Ken... I have a few thoughts, but you will likely get more eyes looking at this in the Ford section of this forum.

1. Do you know any history of this tractor, or this problem? Can tell us about what happened when it stopped working?

2. When you say you have lots of oil, does that mean you have pressure at the pump when running?

3. Have you moved the draft control lever (small lever underneath your right knee when sitting) down and back up, just to be
certain it moves? Does the 3 point do anything as you move this lever from one position to the other?

4. I am assuming there is oil on the dipstick? Does it look like hydraulic oil? Lighter colored, and lighter weight. I have
seen heavy gear oil in this system... The whole systems still worked, but just not well. You might want to drain the system,
just to see what comes out. It only holds 8 quarts.

5. There looks to be a quick release coupling for a remote hydraulic function. Has there been anything hooked up to that? Do
you know that it is installed correctly? Can you hook something up to it, and see if it works? There is an adjustment screw for
this remote function... Under your left thigh IIRC... Try tightening and loosening that a bit. Finger tight only. If everything
above checks out, you might want to temporarily remove that (and install the standard plate), just to verify that is not an
issue.

Tell me what you think on the above, and I'll keep thinking about it for some other ideas. Good luck.

1. A year ago this past Fall, the top cover was removed and fixed. Then, come Spring, it stopped working again.
2. Yes. I have pressure at the pump.
3. The draft lever moves, with no response.
4. Yes, I replaced it with hydraulic/trans oil. Drained the system already.
5. I do not have anything to hook up to. In conclusion, I do not see the piston moving at all. (?)
Thank you, Steve !

Hmmm.... I hate to sound redundant, but I'd advise looking back at what was broken and what was fixed last fall. Do you have any
further details on that?

Also, with that information, if you were to start a new post in the Ford section of this forum, you will get a bunch of guys with
more experience than me looking at your question.

I just did that, . . . I think. (I am new to this post.) Thanks. Let's see if anyone answers?
