On the backside of the flow control valve there is a threaded hole is there supposed to be a plug in it or open all the time

I suppose you realize you posted this here and on the Ford board about a week ago. If you are looking for some other knowledge on this all is fine. I think you would have been better served trying again on the Ford topic section. Here is a link to your post over there. I would suggest you email Sean and ask him if he could give you any direction after seeing the picture. The extent of my knowledge comes from looking at the online parts page attached in the 2nd link. I do not see anything shown that suggests something goes in that hole. But I really know zero about any specifics of the hydraulics of your machine.

Parts diagram

All the pictures I find is the outside of the valve. The time I get done I might learn how to use the forum on here. Thanks again

D-450 nothing like that shown on the parts diagram.
See link in my reply. If there is something like that I
would call that an ..overseas.. design to put something
like that where you have to pull the lid off to get this
gizmo removed.

Your link doesn t work for me but item 22 and banjo bolt 23 are the ones I referred to

The flow control bolts on to the out side but is not designed to be removed with the lift top in place
The lift top has to come off to access items 41&42 that are part of that system

Thanks for your help. I guess someone was in this before and
left the pipe off thats why it didnt look right to me.

450, yes that is the same diagram my link went to. I
see what you are talking about. So you have to have
the top off to tighten that line after you put the flow
valve back in? Well as I said that is quite a design.

OP didn t say why they removed the flow control but other than replacing the mounting gasket there s not much reason to remove it
Other than slowing the response time of the draft control to make it less jerky during heavy tillage it basically needs to be set to full flow
With a 5.4 gpm pump for normal use there s little reason to reduce the flow
I completely rebuilt the lift system on my 4000 22 years ago, I set the flow control to full open and haven t touched it since

Im rebuilding the whole tractor. I put new brake disks in the
rear end, New bushings on the lifting arms and all new O-
rings under the cover, lifting cylinder thats when I found the
banjo / bypass pipe missing next Ill be rebuilding the motor.

Thanks for everyone help

Did that to my 4000 22 years ago, it due some new paint and just had its first major breakdown in 20 years a few weeks ago.
Stripped the drive hub out of the pto
I ve got a 4600 waiting for a full rebuild

The return tube sticks down in the sump to help prevent return oil from aerating fluid in the sump
You can use a ORB to inverted flare 90 and a piece of 5/16 or 3/8 brake line to make a return tube
