Any Carb guys in South West MN?

Dose anyone know of a guy that works on carburetors in south western Minnesota? I got a restored Self Propelled Massey Harris Clipper combine that sat for a few years an the old gas clogged the gas tank, fuel line, an carb.

(quoted from post at 09:01:25 01/02/23) Have you tried to get a kit for it yet? I would need a number from the round tag if it
has one.

Its a TSX-155. Very difficult to get it off an even more to get it back on cause the engine is tucked under the combine so tight. I haven't done anything to it really. I took it off an cleaned the bowl a little from the bad fuel. It leaks fuel in the air intake an pours out. It wont get fuel into the engine. Feel like I could do it myself but something like this it needs to be gone through. I don't want to have to take this thing off again lol

Those are simple to repair, usually can be eased apart and cleaned
without buying a kit.

Or get the kit by the number stamped on the round tag. There are specs
online to guide you through all the adjustments and settings. I would not
take the throttle and choke plates out unless you have to replace the
shafts, not usually necessary.

Do thoroughly clean everything! And ensure the fuel going to the carb is
perfectly clean. The tank will probably need to come off and be cleaned.
If it is flaking rust it will need to be replaced or lined.

The lines will need to be flushed before making the final connection. Any
trash coming down the line will cause flooding, be very careful to supply
the clean carb with clean gas!

Thanks for the help. The tank was flaking rust when I got it an the smell of the bad fuel could make a guy fall over. I have another tank off the parts combine I will use but like you said everything has to be super clean. I'll first try it with a little plastic gas tank an rubber line I took of a lawn tractor. The original fuel line is steel so I am considering going to a rubber line instead.

If the gas isn't getting to the engine dose that mean the main jet is plugged or could that be something ells? It cant be plugged if its leaking right?

Go over to the upper left corner of the home page here, under Marketplace click on Tractor parts. Click on Massey Harris, go to the 101 box, go down through the menu to Fuel System, and the first item in the list is the carb kit for your TSX 155. If you decide to DIY it, just make sure every one of the passages is clear, and clean. Wires to chase the passages and blow, and wire and blow, etc. Make sure your float is sound (I don't think this kit includes the float). Set the float level according to the book, and test the ability of the needle to shut off the flow, BEFORE you put it back in the combine. Sandpaper the mating surfaces on something really flat, like a cast iron table saw, and good luck. Look for the article 'How to Rebuild the Marvel Schebler Carburetor-Route 249'. I don't remember where I got that article, but Kudo's to the author!!! Steve

There is likely grunge at the bottom of the well where the carb picks up it's fuel. That's the area where your main jet needle seats into. Check that area thoroughly for blockage. Your bowl could be overflowing, and still no gas getting through the main jet. There could also be gunk at the bottom of the tube that protrudes into the throttle bore. That tube can be a real bugger to screw out without twisting it off (BTDT), and then there's a tiny jet screwed in at the bottom of that hole. There might be a trick for getting that jet out, but I just left it in place and made sure it was clear to pass fuel. Steve

Thanks a Tone!!! I got a 3/4 gallon container of Chem Dip Carburetor Parts Cleaner that I'll let it soke in for 24 hours before I touch it again. I got a kit like you said so hopefully it will all work out as you have said after everything is cleaned out good in those passages. Really appreciate the advise thankyou!!! I'll keep you updated!
