Gas tank rehab

I'm working on a 2 compartment tank that
has some holes in the starting tank. The
main tank is good.
I've cleaned the main tank and have rinsed
it with gas a couple times.
I'm not planning on using the small 2
gallon compartment but I will be coating
it after I repair the holes so that the
common wall to the main tank doesn't rust
through.
I want to protect the main tank and reduce
the gas fume hazard while in my shop. So
I'm thinking of pouring in some 2 cycle
oil and coating the walls of the main tank
. Hope to have this done and ready to use
in spring.

I think if you wish to protect the tank you clean it well and use a fuel tank liner such as Red-Kote. I use a tank liner even on a brand new tank to protect it from rusting.

If you were to pour a little phosphoric acid into the small tank and give it 15 minutes to penetrate the seam between the two tanks, you would have the rust in there stopped cold.
