old ford tractor restorers

Does anyone know of any company or individual that restores old ford tractors? my ford 4400 is starting to give me problems that are beyond my abilities. I need someone who knows everything about it and has the parts or knows what is needed and where to get them. I live in north Florida Madison county. all I can find are guys that create more problems. I would be willing to ship it to them and get it restored. :?:

Drop down to the Ford Board section of this site. You might find some direction there. You might be surprised, with the advise that is
available, what you are actually capable of.

Tractor restoration is limited to a hobby relationship. Unless you have
something rare and collectable there is no way to justify the cost.

Unless you are willing to do the work yourself it will be cost
prohibitive, you would be ahead to purchase something newer and in better
condition. Restoration is a serious undertaking. What you are looking at is more a practical approach, stop the leaks, clean it up, and make it reliable again. Much more practical than a complete restoration.

Old tractors were designed to be simple and field repairable. With a shop
manual, basic tools, and physical ability, anyone can perform basic
repairs. Major repairs, as in splitting the tractor, require a good
working area (a slab floor), some ability to lift and secure the
components safely, best done with 2 people. But still with determination
it is doable.

We would love to help you through this, keeping them out of the scrap
yard is our goal. Feel free to ask all the questions you want!

thanks Steve, your post makes perfect sense and is probably what I needed to hear. I really just want to get it in good working condition to use on my farm. I have the manuals, but some things are so technical, its over my head. And the most confusing part is getting the correct parts there are so many variations for the same model, and most tractor parts places are little or no help if you don't have part numbers. Where the heck do I get part numbers. this is what frustrates me. I just need someone who can be contacted that can tell me what I need, and I can attempt the rest.

Start with positively identifying the tractor, model, serial numbers, research the numbers for date of
manufacture, options, etc.

This site, along with many others has extensive parts listed, along with real live help when needed. As
you get involved you will learn as you go, don't expect to know all of it from the beginning or let it
intimidate you. Everybody goes through this! Sometimes you have to take it apart first to see what you
have or what someone may have changed before. This is usually the best approach, as you never know what
you might find.

Not all parts are still available new, and most everything is aftermarket, which are not always a
perfect fit or of the same quality as original. Just something to know going in and you expect to have
to deal with it.

Sometimes used original parts are a better choice, Ebay is a good source, just watch their return policy
and shop carefully!

Interested to hear where you end up taking your 4400 I
have a low hour 3910 and would like to have someone fix
a steering leak, fix a gage and lights, and install a front
loader but like you, all I seem to find are shade tree
guys who really dont know much. Im in South Carolina
FWIW. Im perfectly able to fix it, but I have a full time
job, a farm, and a family. Just out of time.

Well, the old timers who know are dying off and the young ones don't know how because they only know a smartphone and an xbox, and then there is you and me. Needed my 3600 split to replace a $1 freeze plug- nobody knew anything, wouldn't call back, ect. I had to split and fix it myself and as long as it is split, do the clutch and seals. Workers don't want to work and employers don't want to pay a livable wage. This is the new American economy, made by CEOs who scoff at making things that endure. They sell services, subscriptions, disposable tools and disposable machines. Henry Ford would have vomited. You might find now is a good time to fix the tractor to know the tractor. Take off the tin and let a body shop fix and paint it. You do the mechanical. Then when you put it to work you will have total confidence in the clutch because you've seen it and you know the job was done to the book.

Good luck on fixing your leak. I have never seen a 3910 that didn't leak. I have been into at least a half dozen myself. We fix them and they last a while and they start leaking again. I have one we have been into 3 times and it's not leaking now but who knows if it will be leaking next week.

(quoted from post at 19:55:08 12/19/22) And the most confusing part is getting the correct parts there are so many variations for the same model, and most tractor parts places are little or no help if you don't have part numbers. Where the heck do I get part numbers. this is what frustrates me.

Simple! You go to the CNH Parts Website and look up the parts book for your model tractor! "CNH" is Case-New Holland, which is the corporation that owns the rights to the old Ford Tractors. They have the Factory parts books with part numbers and exploded diagrams right there on their website, free of charge, for you to use! Check out the attached picture showing the parts manual for your Ford 4400 Tractor. I've even marked it up to show you the steps to check and how to search for it! And if you want to go a step further and try to buy OEM parts, you simply select the dealer you want to use and it should let you see availability and price, and it might even let you purchase directly from the site; however I always like to call with my part number.
