6 volt Delco generator

I am trying to see my generator will charge my battery. I've done a bench test and the pulley is turning, but if the pulley turn the way it did, will the brushes use faster, because it from the tip of the brush on the commutator.

Hello muscleman welcome to YT. I had to ..phone a friend..
we will says to get you a more correct answer. I posted this on a topic section of the forum that has a greater number of viewers. Have you or someone had the generator apart? The only reason I could see for it to turn backwards if that is actually happening when powered as a motor would be that the leads to the field coils are not connected properly.
