Massey 44 won't move when in gear

Hello everyone. I have just acquired a 1948 Massey Harris 44 and I am having some difficulty getting it to move when it is shifted into gear. When shifted into gear and I take my foot off the clutch there is a "twitch" of movement in the wheels, like it wants to move, but doesn't. If I stomp stomp stomp on the clutch it will, most times, eventually jump into motion and start to go (kind of a scary way to get rolling). The weird part is that this method works for some gears but not others. For example, I might get it to move in 1st, and sometimes 4th, but not 2nd or 3rd. Any idea what my issue might be?

Thanks in advance!

I would say if theres an access inspection cover open it up and look for rusted pressure plate levers . They may free up with pb blaster.

I have had issues with mice nest , their urine is on steel is almost chemical welding strength.

If the throw out bearing has a zerk fitting , try 3 pumps from grease gun.

Not familiar with Massey 44 but mice, rust is common cause of most issues .
Massey is pretty robust equipment , so you will get it freed up , keep us posted as to the problem .

sometimes the answer is staring you in the face... The pedal was loose and was getting caught, therefore not returning all the way allowing the clutch to fully contact. Simple solution - the best kind!
