What is the air temperature?

What is the actual timeline here? You said, I used it almost all day yesterday, followed by, the next day I went down and tried to start it. Was it actually a few days in between?

What is the history? Is this a tractor you have owned a while or just got? When was it last serviced (oil, fuel, air filter)? Did you crack the high-pressure lines at the injectors, fuel set to run, and see if there was fuel going to the injectors while cranking it over?

Don't use starting fluid, especially if you have Thermostart on the
tractor. Using starting fluid on any diesel is a real no no. Most people
over use it and it can damage piston rings and piston lands. Using it
with Thermostart can set off a detonation in the intake manifold. The
Ford 201 Diesel is not that hard of a starter however in temperatures
below about 40F, it might need a starting aid like Thermostart or a
block heater.
Make sure your battery is fully charged before you attempt to start it.

While I know that the excessive use of ether can be bad for an engine, if it were bad for all diesels why would so many come from the factory with ether injection systems that include a button on the dash to activate it? You can go to many equipment and heavy truck dealers and buy ether in liter sized containers to go into the system.

Yes, starting fluid should not be used in some engines. Yes, it can be safely used in moderation in other engines. It definitely should not be used in engines with functioning thermostarts, intake heaters, or glow plugs. (I was not involved but witnessed from a distance, a truck that got a dose of starting fluid by a guy walking, by thinking he was helping, while the driver was using the intake heater. I can say for certain fancy chrome air cleaner parts will fly a long way and the driver was not happy.) The injection systems that put a small dose in the intake while the engine is cranking are best.

All the talk about using starting fluid ought to wait until the OP comes back and provides more info. Maybe it started and he has moved on. Or maybe he decided to burn it to the ground as he mentioned, so starting is no longer needed.
