Need help 12v conversion ford tractor

I just picked up a 1964 Ford 4140 tractor. Runs great. The previous owner half convrted it to a 12 volt system. I just need help finding the correct alternator mounting brackets for a GM alternator. I am new to tractors, all the conversations I find are for the N model tractors. Not sure if it will work for mine.
Please if you can help, that would be great
Thanks

Hard to find something that is correct when it was never suppose to be there in the first place. On many one can flip the bracket it has and then use it to mount a Delco 10SI alternator. I've done a lot of them and every one is a bit different between each brand/model

Hello Taker welcome to YT! Often an alternator can just
mount on the bracket that the generator mounted on.
Just use an piece of all-thread and some nuts or make
some pipe spacers. If this seems to work and there is
enough material I would recommend drilling the
bracket holes out to 3/8 inch if they were previously
5/16 because the bottom mount hole on a Delco
alternator is 3/8. The problem is that sometimes this
does not allow the alternator to mount far enough
forward to allow the belt to line up properly. Not a Ford
guy but maybe the engine found in your tractor which
looks to be a 172ci was used in later tractors equipped
with alternators so maybe you could not find a bracket
for one of those models. Just in case you do not have
one I will attach a generic wiring diagram for a Delco
10si 3 wire alternator.

What old is saying I know has worked on Farmalls which have a bottom original generator bracket that is just heavy flat strap with an ear on each end bent at 90 degrees with a hole drilled to mount the generator. On those the holes that mount the bracket to the head are offset front to back. So when you flip it upside down the mount ears move forward to overcome the belt offset problem I talked about. Not sure how this applies to the mounts you have or what is needed.

Again like on many one only know till it has been done. I have done that on more then one Ford model and had it work

Don t be afraid to use a long bolt and a stack of washers to move it front and back if you need to. You can cobble up something, and after it works, you can make it pretty. :)

Here's some aftermarket brackets, but you never know how well they will
fit.

Fitting the alternator straight and secure is essential for belt life and
trouble free operation. Often the automotive pulley on the alternator is
too narrow and needs to be changed out for a wider pulley to match the
tractor belt. Wide pulleys are available from many sources online and easy
to change with an impact wrench.

There is also an alternator with a tach drive if you need that.

IF a new user is using Modern view, they should be able to add pictures to their second post. Chris changed that setting, for Modern view only, today.
