Best Solutions to dissolve rust?

i had a few carburetors that are pretty rusty from sitting for many years, does anyone have good theories on what solution best works to dunk the carb in and have it clean the rust

I have used Muriactic acid with good results. No aluminum or pot metal, as it will eat it up. Shouldn't need to be in very long and a good water bath and blow dry afterwards.

I soak them in Purple Power, full strength overnight, to get all the dirt and crud off. Then take out all the internal parts and glass-bead. Then a
soak in Evaporust if it's CI. Hot water rinse and thoroughly dry. Evaporust will keep them from rerusting for a long time.

I've used muriatic acid on badly calcified aluminum.

Pour some in the bowl and watch it, rinse it out and take a look, repeat as needed. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. Nothing to lose by trying.

Like you say, don't soak it or leave it unattended!

I've had good results using end brushes on
a drill. Different sizes for different
areas gets pretty much all surfaces and
corners. Ordered from Zoro enough to last
till I'm done restoring tractors.

If it's steel muriatic acid is probably fastest but you have to watch it because it will erode it. Phosphoric acid works pretty well, or if you aren't in a hurry diluted molasses works well. Electrolysis may
work and is interesting but seems like a lot of trouble to me. I like to use molasses to soak and then at the last brush on some phosphoric acid to help prevent future rust just because that is the cheapest
route to me and I'm not in any hurry.

What carb cleaner doesn't get out white vinegar finishes it. Don't leave it over night as the vinegar really starts working, and may take more than you want.
