Tool box on my M

Hi I am restoring a 1941 ish M farmall and wonder if they came with a tool box on them and if so what dimensions and placement. Thanks for any help. Yes I m a novice at this.

Most dealers had several styles that could be added to new and used tractors, but a tool box was not
standard or an option on an H/M. Think 400 was first tractor to have a tool box on it from Farmall, under
the gas tank, our 450 had one, and all tractors afterwards had one.

The toolbox & bracket on the 86-series was made by Watetloo Industries, same company that made Sear's big
roll arounds and top chests.

I would guess it had the curved pipe support type of seat which had a "tool box" as part of the seat frame. It wasn't much of a tool box but it would hold a few things.

Think they might of been bought of a dealers shelf. I bought one at the Rock River Threshere a few years ago to put on my Super M, looked about 99% like the one on our M when I was a kid. Original box with brkts, bolts and directions. Was going to mount it on the trans. top above the pto shield like the M but it's got some shelf scuffs on it and I haven't been in the painting mood lately. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow if I think about it.

There is an aftermarket that fits steering post up by headlight bar. Dad made one for our M that bolted on frame under carb and I now have it
on my 450.

The A and B, BN series had one under and back of the seat. Held a few wrenches, draw bolts screw drivers. Nt a lot, so I made a lid to help keep things in. It helps!

Here's my tool box, Allied precision industries, no date on the paper but does show a Ford 6000 illustration however old that was, Farmall example looks something on the order of a 560.

Growing up 20 miles East of Moline, Ill nobody had an A or B Farmall, way too small to be useful, One neighbor 5 miles away had a Super C. Straight H was too small for most 4-row rowcrop work, and M too small for 6-row work. Now days a 400 hp 4wd is a planter tractor, might pull a grain cart in fall.
Any tractor we took to the field had a big frame mounted toolbox about two or three times the size of the one D Beatty shows on his 450. Had to hold 2 quarts of oil, 2 tubes of grease, shear pins, assorted bolts & nuts, tools, and shop rags. Grease gun was in an over-center mount bolted to tractor someplace handy. Tools included a minimum of two 12 inch cresant wrenchs, 20 oz ball peen hammer, couple screwdrivers, punch & chisel, and maybe some hog waterer parts such as a float and float rod, and sealing washers. Big toolbox on water-wagon was full of hog waterer parts. I tried to figure up once how many trips Dad and I made to the hog pasture every week all summer. With at least one 350 gallon load of water every day, 5500# load of ground feed every other day, 500# creep feed suppliment every 2-3 days, plus extra trips just to check on things, patch fence, fill mudholes, was over 30-35 between the two of us combined per week.

Thanks for the reply my tractor will be a minor worker as in pushing a little snow in the winter!! just wanted to get as close to show room as I can with it.

Do you remember that little one that some of the 806's and 1206 came with, they were on the left side, under the fuel tank, the owners manual came in there rolled up,it was a joke, maybe hold a grease tube. But there a company in Chicago, called Edsal Mfg, they made a lot of tool cabinets,, all brands except Snapon, i would of liked to had some of them with minor defects, that they threw away!
