Massey MF202 pto can not engage when engine running

Hi there I am new to this site so bear with me. Haha. I have a Massey Ferguson mf 202 and newly purchased. I have a 60 pto driven mower and when I tried to engage the pto with the clutch pedal pressed all the way down it makes the grinding noise and will not engage. Shut the engine down and engage the pto lever and try to start the engine and it is turning over the mower. I noticed the clutch pedal is super hard to push down also. Wondering if the clutch pedal can be moved to disengage the clutch and engage the pto while the engine is running. Any thoughts. Also it says on the side of the plate engine pto

I would get an IT manual and start by checking the two stage clutch adjustments. You should be able to "feel" the difference when you get to the PTO part of the pedal travel.

Post this down on the Massey-Ferguson forum. There are fellows there that can tell you off the top of their heads how to adjust and trouble shoot your PTO question.

Sounds like the second stage (PTO) clutch is either stuck or out of adjustment.

If it is stuck with rust, try operating it under load while holding the clutch down. It may break loose.

The hard pedal is typical, unless it is excessively hard, gritty, or feels like the linkage is binding.

Has this been stored outside with little use?

There is an adjustment on the second stage, but usually it is adjusted on installation and the adjustment lasts the life of the clutch, but worth checking. The gap between the bolt heads and the secondary disc should be .090".

Had a massey 65 do the same thing pto clutch stuck, I just engaged the pto with the tractor off and started it. worked ok untill I
could get it fixed. It might even break free if it's not too stuck.
