Thread sealant?

This may sound too elementry for the mechanics on this board but here goes. My background has been in construction mgmt for years however tractor tinkering is new to me although I have owned my tractor for years - never doing much except using it...I have taken the sediment bowl off and cleaned the tank, filters ec. [b:7022fbb8cd]Question is before screwing the filter into the bottom of the tank is there a need to use a thread sealant?[/b:7022fbb8cd] I use tape on water and gas lines all the time not sure what or if to use on areas possibly coming in contact with gasoline? Thanks JB

I don't think you need to use anything, but if you choose to,Permatex would be my choice. Petroleum products will dissolve things made for water plumbing.

On those the hardening type of permatex is best to use. There is a good chance it won't be quite tight enough where it aligns up and too tight to get another round on it. With the hardening type you can stop where it aligns up and it will harden and seal up good. In the future you can still get them out too.

OK,times have changed. I always go back to what the fuel man told me years ago when I was plumbing up a gas barrel.

In the 38 years I have lived on this farm and been messing with tractor I have yet to use anything on the sediment bowl assembly on any thing I own or have owned and I have had a lot of tractor over the years. I lost count of how many tractor I have on the place but I know it is over 30

I am not fond of Teflon tape. I have consistently hat it start leaking a year or two down the road. Blue paste (can't remember the name) is my choice.
