6V Starter Rebuild

Just pulled out the starter on a 1949 AC Model G. Any tips for a newbie on how to clean up the inside and which parts to check or replace?

My advice is to take it your local auto electric shop and get it done right. I?m writing from experience.

Just put starter back in, and it turns the engine over much more quickly now.

I was able to just clean off the inside parts with degreaser and put the old brushes back in.

Blown away by how simple and effective a fix that was.

Starter on model G sits underneath oil bath air cleaner. No wonder there was so much gunk in there!
