Drawbar frame parts

1959 John Deere 430 row crop utility drawbar frame is beaten up and I'm repairing the holes through which the studs pass. The parts manual shows part # M3149T described as a hollow dowel used on the front studs. These are missing. Where can I find them or what are the specifications if I need to fabricate them?

Jeff - I ran that part number and they show it as an available part. $16.31 each

The dimensions shown are:

O.D. 1.125 inches

I.D. 0.656 inches

Length 0.625 inches

Material 1117 (I don't know what that means)

Thank You! The specs sound like what I expected from visual examination. One question: who is "they" who have the part? Yesterday's Tractors suggested posting on the forum as they offered no availability.

Jeff - "they" was a poor choice of words on my part. I'm sorry.

I was referring to the online JD Parts page. Here's a link. It's free, but you'll have to register, and maybe pick a dealer, but there's no obligation to buy from them. It's valuable info for just what you're doing. If you fool around with it, you'll find that you can enter a part number, then click on the number and it will sometimes give the physical dimensions for the part. That's what I did in your case. You can also download the free parts manual for your tractor from the same Deere site.

Did as you suggested and checked JD itself and all the dealers that were listed. All, including JD, came up as no longer available or zero inventory. I did find the specs, etc. exactly as you gave them. Thanks for hooking me up with the Deere site. So, the final question is, where did you see the part listed as available?

Jeff - if you set up a shopping cart on the JDParts site, you can add 2 of part number M3149T, and it will tell you the following;

Description: Bushing - dowel, hollow

Dealer on hand: 0 (at my nearby dealer)

Dealer will order: 2

Unit price: $16.31 USD

Total price: $32.62 USD

This looks like a normal order to me, and if you go on through the order steps, I think you'll find that it is available, but will have to be shipped either directly to you (shipping added) or to the dealer for you to pick up (no shipping added). I have it on my screen right now, but of course I don't want to finalize the order.

When the part is no longer available, it will specifically state that, and it will advise you to call the dealer for other options. I went through that recently, and after calling the dealer, the parts guy found the part I needed in a far distant warehouse, and had it in my hands in three or four days.

I guess that's why you go by Tractor Guru. The process isn't what I would call intuitive. Thank you for guiding me (patiently) through the steps. Order has been placed, awaiting results.

You puzzled me with "tractor guru", and I finally realized that you saw that on "modern view". Please don't think of me as a tractor guru. That is a gross misrepresentation. I'm about as mechanically inept as one can possibly be, ha.

I'm glad you got your order made. It took me a while to figure out their system. I've had good experience with JDParts. You can also get service and operator's manuals through them (for a fee).

Also Jeff - Welcome to Yesterday's Tractors. I've meant to say that with each post.

You may have already found it, but I wanted to mention that there is a John Deere specific forum, and that is where you'll find the real John Deere gurus. There are a lot of helpful and knowledgeable John Deere owners/mechanics there.

You can also search the archives and find past subjects of discussion. There is a little trick in doing a search - I always think I've struck out, but if I click "search" a second time it will produce for me. You'll figure it out if you haven't already.

They have those cute little labels on Modern View, but it is based on longevity, rather than tractor knowledge. I'm living proof, ha.

Thanks for more good information. So you were promoted to guru by seniority? Well then, live long and prosper :)
