Touch control gage addition

I am restoring my 48 Super A and would like to add the gage for the touch control, my filter is in great shape so I was wondering if anyone
out there just drilled and tapped their old filter housing instead of spending a hundred bucks on a new filter with the port already
installed? I can't come up with a reason not to try this, anybody have any thoughts?

Anybody? Somebody must be a miser like me and tried to save a few bucks, if it did not work...fes up...I would like to know why it did not work.
On another note anyone know what size hole that gage probe fits in, NPT, or whatever? Thanks
