Kubota Axle Thunk

I know this is an antique tractor forum, but I figured maybe someone on here could point me in the right direction.

My dad has a Kubota B7500 that makes a "thunk" noise in the right axle when moving. If you go really slow it doesn't make the noise so we haven't been able to figure out if it's a certain spot or not. Seems like its random, but it doesn't sound good. So far the tractor is still running fine but we'd like to try and figure it out. Tractor is way past warranty and we don't have the money to take it in, so is this something we could fix on our own?

Any thoughts appreciated.

good morning Mnethercutt, suggestion, have you tried jacking up the right rear wheel and spinning it by hand? my first 2 thoughts are either bearing or axle shaft spline? one of the splines broken off? give the dealer service dept. a call and run it past them. and get your manual out it will give you a good place to start.

Not too familiar with that model ? But many of the B series have wheel hubs that clamp to the rear axle. So maybe just some loose clamp bolts ?

My experience as well as that of many others here has been that it is most likely to be an axle clamp sort of thing like Mike M said or looseness between the rim and center.

(quoted from post at 16:35:29 12/22/17) Could it be a loose wheel weight? I've had that happen.

My first thoughts as well..loose weights. Jack it up and check the rear wheel bearings for being loose(lift it off the ground and place your fingers on housing and axel at same time...let it down and feel for slack)

Could also be internal slack..depending on how it's constructed...slack in internal splines like stub-shafts or planet carrier/axel splines. The old JD 4010/4020 tractors are notorious for this...make a pop when taking off as the drive train winds-up the slack.
