Right size of o-ring??

This post is for my tractors transaxle.

I have grooves on my axle housings boss's and carrier housings boss's where an o-ring sits and the grooves are all 0.175" wide by 0.125" deep. The boss's fit really tight. I have two old o-rings and I can't remember which one came from where and which would be the best suitable size to buy new. The cross-section on narrow o-ring 0.145" and wide one is 0.170". Between service manual says one that should be 0.139" cross section. Transaxle shows evidence of being apart before so not sure what people where thinking for best fit.

This is photo of thick o-ring on my broken carrier housing.

Here is a photo of the thinner o-ring, and it rises just above groove. This old one was still in ok condition but I'll buy new.

The top photo, that ring is obviously too big, don't know how they ever got it in without cutting it.

The bottom photo looks to be correct.

The .039 dimension is standard for an American 2xx series oring cross section. Here is a chart that lists common stock sizes. For an OD groove, I like to go just under on the diameter so the ring sits in the groove without sag, makes it easier to assemble.
