Use Caution If you contact Partdeal.com

To Whom it may concern,

Be careful if the order from "Partdeal.com".

Two days ago, I ordered two(2) Cole-Hersee brand ignition switches (Part #95614). Partdeal listed the order total as $39.76 but after I placed the order, I was sent an order confirmation that added $13.48 in shipping costs and billed my credit card $53.24.

Today, I received an email from Partdeal.com, indicating that they could not supply the switches and the charge would be reversed my credit card.

Assuming that my next credit card statement indicates a net $0, I'll only be out the inconvenience.

Just wanted to pass it along,

I was going to order a snap ring from a company called G.L. Huyett yesterday and they made me open an account giving them my credit card number and everything before going to the checkout. When I finally got there they added a ten dollar small order fee and then posted shipping would be determined after I placed the order. I backed out of the deal but I'm unable to close my account and they still have my credit card info. Now I'm going to have to watch my credit card to make sure they don't pull something.

Stephen,

Thanks for the information.

Most of the websites I have placed orders through are straight up folks but I guess we have (at least) two to watch.

I'll start a list.

Well, not sure that was such a bad deal.

Things happen, for whatever reason their supplier couldn't come through.

Good thing is they contacted you in a timely manner, offered the refund, which you will most likely receive.

What gripes me is when the part never comes, they won't communicate, or once they have the money you go on the 6 week waiting list, and if you want to cancel try to charge 20%!

Aside from the fact that many companies offer "Free Shipping" (which we all know isn't actually Free); the point is that the company added the shipping cost after giving me the "Order Total" (Cost).

This could be considered one type of "Bate and Switch" scam.

Think of it this way: You pull into the gas station and he sign indicates $2.50/gallon. You put put 10 gallons of gas in your truck. You get the credit card receipt and the grand total is $30 because they added a $5 "Pumping (i.e. Delivery) Fee".

I guess that's OK if you expect "paying a shipping charge to send it to you" but I would feel like I'd been ripped-off for $5.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks,

Art

$13 for shipping was fair BUT the company should have told you the total with shipping before you gave them your credit card information.

I learned to always ask what my total is when ever I buy something over the phone. Companies don't want to spend any extra time on the phone. They want t that line open for the next sucker!

Back in the 1980's a guy brought me a go cart needing a replacement throttle cable. This was long before the internet. I could not find the part in my mail order catalogs or my my outdoor power suppliers didn't carry go cart parts.

The go cart had a tag that read "for parts call 1-800-123-4567"
I called that number. They had the part costing $8. I didn't have an account so they would only ship COD. I agreed and purchased the part.

When the UPS came the total bill was $70-80. Besides the shipping charge and the COD charge was a minimum order charge. They did not mention on the phone I had to spend $50. They added a $42 minimum order fee.

After that experience I learned to always ask what the total with all fees and taxes.

A friend of mine and I like hot pickled asparagus.

A local store that carried it went out of business, so I looked on-line, and found some from what seemed like a reputable company, so I ordered two quarts.

They were pretty high-priced, but there was no mention of an extra shipping charge, so I ASSUMED it was included.

Went through the checkout with a CC, filled out all the CC and address stuff, and no added shipping charge was shown.

Hit the "BUY" button and it charged the CC the high price for the two quarts, PLUS, an exorbitant UPS charge (IIRC, $75).

Got put on hold when I tried to call them multiple times, so I filed a fraud report with my CC company and they quickly took care of it.

DIRTY way to do things, to show no added shipping charge, then add it as the CC charge is entered to be processed!

This is why I use PayPal for nearly every transaction. PayPal makes it easy to back the charges out and so far they have been very good to work with. I buy a ton of things online, but it has been many months since I have had to input a CC number because PayPal already has it.
