Flipping a bush hog

I need to replace the blades on my bush hog. To do so I need to flip it over or on edge, but I don't have a front end loader. I do have a boom but it will only raise if a few feet high. Suggestions?

I have parked them against a big tree & used a come-along attached to side not against tree to up higher in tree and tilted them up, BUT do NOT get in harms way without support in addition to come-along once it is up!

i use a 55 gallon drum with the top cut off. drop the pto shaft off the tractor and shorten uo the top link to get the tail wheel high enough to drop in the drum. it gets the mower high enough to work under it. and yes, leave it hooked to the tractor.

Many ways to flip a brush hog. Simple big tree with nice big tree limb and a chain host or com-a-long. Or lift to rear of it with your 3 point boom then with another tractor or truck hook up a chain and pull it up and over. That type of thing is why my shop is set up with 4 chain hosts and 3 on trolleys

I use an engine hoist while the implement is attached to the tractor. It's easier to lay on your back under the bush hog and remove the blades than to turn it over. I sharpen the blades the same way with an angle grinder.

Sounds like a lot of potential for bad things to happen lifting by various methods...Isn't there a
4 to 5 inch round hole in the deck, just behind the gearbox?
I change my blades just by un screwing the nut, and tapping the mounting bolt down while holding one hand throught the hole and under the blade/mounting bolt.
a bit cramped if you have catcher mitt sized hands:) but the bolt and blade does twist and turn to come out, same routine to re-install after sharpening.
hope it helps.

ps: yes the pto shaft is disconnected from the tractor......:):):)

Weld a jib on your boom. I have one on my one engine lift to get higher.
I use my front loader to set my rotary mower on edge.
This was my first try on the jib. The chain hooks back on the boom to hold it to the desired height.

Dick, be careful extending the boom past the front wheels on the engine lift!

Light stuff is OK, but it can sure flip over forward with anything heavy!

Which ever you do, be careful. We had a guy killed here this summer when the blocks he had it on slipped and fell on him. I rebuilt the brakes on his tractor for him last year and his wife is my mail carrier. Turn it over if at all possible.
