Farmall m shifting problems

I have a farmall m not exactly sure of the year but recently started having problems with it getting stuck in gear. After doing some research I pulled the shifter realigned everything and all was good for awhile. It got to when the tractor was in 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear it would grind like it was trying to go into another gear while moving. So I built up the end of the shifter by welding and grinding to get it to fit. It now shifts great into reverse 2nd and 4th but I have to rock the tractor back and forth to get into 1st 3rd and 5th.

Is it running when you try to shift into 1, 3, and 5? The only thing I can think of is the tip of the shifter may be too wide, and
is trying to shift 2 or more gears at a time.

Ok so I tried out running and it goes into gear a lot better but still have the grinding issue in 2nd. It goes into gear fine and pulls fine even under a load but as soon as I push the clutch in it makes a grinding noise almost as if I was trying to put it in gear without the clutch.

It?s normal for them to grind while your trying to stop? It?s not grinding while in trying to put it into gear but when I?m pushing the clutch in to stop and only in 2nd gear.

Guess I should have out on my glasses, duh! If its only doing that in 2nd, it would almost have to be the gear(s) for 2nd. Does it do it in reverse?

I dont know, man. Ive never come across this, and Im just stumped why only second does it. The only thing I can think of is second gear is wore out, or something that would only affect 2nd is wore out. You might want to post this on the Farmall board. More people will see it.

Take the small drain plug out on the front edge of the transmission housing. put a small magnet in & see if you pull out any small rollers. The top main shaft in the transmission has a roller bearing on the end. If it goes out the shaft drops down & causes shifting problems. Just another thought.
