Shaw - Starter Drive PN ?

I have a Shaw R8 with a 6 volt starter. The starter drive doesn't engage the flywheel on its own so I have to manually turn the gear into mesh with the flywheel, then I can hit the start button and it will drive the flywheel. Once only.
So I would like to replace the starter drive but I have no idea what to order as there are no manuals for these tractors.
It looks similar to what I have seen - maybe on an Allis B????
Does anyone have an idea what model or part number this would be?
I think the starter shaft is 1/2" diameter.

If it works there's no need to replace it. TWO issues here, the starter motor may not be "snapping" up to speed as rapidly as it should to spin out the drive (that's why the are called "inertial drives), and/or the drive itself may be sticky/gummy and be resisting "spinning out (actually "IN").

If you are capable, take the starter apart (if you're capable you know this requires being able to get the brushes back in place), blow it out with compressed air, replace the brushes, if badly worn, clean the shaft and bushings with BrakeKleen, lightly oil the bushings with turbine oil and reassemble.

Move on to the drive, clean off all rust and gunk and grease and oil from the "screw"... they are intended to operate "dry" (which is likely where your trouble is).

It should then "spin out" on it's own. Since it's out there exposed, it's probably OK to give it a shot of "Slip Plate" dry graphite lube to protect it a bit without getting gummy or attracting dirt.

Alternately, some use a modern Teflon lube (brand name escapes me at the moment), but DEFINITELY not tyical oil or grease.

The drive doesn't seem sticky but I HAVE oiled it - sounds like the wrong thing to do.
Thanks for the advice.
