Ford Tractor 9n

Hi
New to the board and know nothing about tractors. I am trying to help a friend I just visited in Ohio who had the following tractor and he said
that he cannot get it running because of that part that I zoomed in on. Can anyone tell me what that is and maybe where I can find for him?
Looking to fix it so he can use it again.

Thanks
Joe

You mean the carb?? Those can be rebuilt and there is a guy that goes by Royce in the 9N/2N/8N forum down below that rebuilds them for people or you can buy a rebuild kit like the Walker brand kit from O'Reilly auto parts store part number 778-505A

Well, that's the carburetor.

The carb is easily repaired, much better than replacing it. A new replacement will be an aftermarket part, not as good as the original, and more expensive.

How did your friend determine the problem is the carb? Many an innocent carb has been blamed for unrelated problems. Unless he has some knowledge of how an engine works, he will be money and frustration ahead to find someone to properly diagnose the problem BEFORE throwing parts at it. Not only is that an expensive way to go about it, you can quickly multiply the problem by making unnecessary changes.

Can he explain what the symptoms are and what has been done so far?

Thanks. I already bought one :(. He said that when it's running that is spitting and leaking gas from the carburetor . That was all he told me. Something I was reading that it could be from a rusty gas tank so you could be right that replacing it is a symptom but not the real problem

Carbs like many other things on tractor are made to be rebuilt and or repaired. I have rebuilt at least 100 in all the years I have messed with tractors and the yare not all that hard o fix
