first hello to all as new member!
already learned a lot reading posts but havent found exactly the prob having.
Ford 4500 3 cyl diesel loader/backhoe
all working as it should till blew backhoe hose.
replaced 11/12 hoses from control valve..12th just couldnt get off. Hoping lasts till finish project. Right...
topped fluid, ran, topped off again.
Prob is the boom seems fine but stick seems to not extend beyond vertical and feels like mechanical clunk at endpoint. Bucket didnt want to move more than bout 6" at teeth.
Thought I was very careful bout matching up hose locations.
After fooling around a while eventually got stick fully extended and bucket closed using weight of boom for assist but wont open fully.
Stick seems to extend if use another control with it??
Is this air in lines causing prob??
Is there a bleeding process, other than my knuckles changing hoses, when replacing hoses??
All cylinders working fine before hose blew. Thx, jim

I have had a 1970 Ford 4500, 3 cyl gas backhoe, for over a dozen years. Replaced all hoses some time ago- marked each one and made a diagram to insure correct installation. I"m thinking you have some switched around. That"s why some controls operate a bit, then stall out. Just like hooking 4 hyd hoses to 2 remote tractor valves, and getting hoses crossed. Granted, hard to do this, but follow both hoses from each valve, to the end cyl. When I switched all hoses at one time, I used colored wire ties, to each line, and valve, and drew a diagram. Only takes one switcheroo to drive you nuts!

No, you don"t typically need to bleed a hyd system...just run the levers a few times after install- air will purge.

Thx for reply JMS.
Yeah made diagram. Labeled pipes in boom and really thought I got them right but I guess you must be right. Will try to trace them thru the snakepit and see if i screwed that up. I cant imagine what the result would be if the feeds to a cylinder are crossed with another cylinder but I guess that would mess up the function. Anyway thx a ton for the advice! I really was hoping to be done with those hoses. jim
