So Joined up I have had my father's tractor since his death 2 years ago I have used the box leveler and the 3pt to move bee hives and well stuff. This past week in NW Montana I overheated the old beast. and it is seized up. I plan on bringing it back it is torned down to pull the motor this week. I know it is a Ford tractor
It is the 4 cyl. :> I think it is a late 2n or 9n and i understand these are the "same" It has the front distributor. So I am no stranger to tools i am a stranger to the tractor rebuilding. So I joined up to be able to ask the folks that can help me restore the beast of burden back to its glory day . There are a few things i wont fix Like the creased hood my dad welded back together when it split from crashing into a fence pole while he was looking backwards :> Gota keep that damage :>

Ok So I am positive i'll have a million questions for yall

Welcome Capt jj. I'm sure there
are plenty of people willing to
help.they sure have helped me with
my gray Ford.

There is another board on this
site where they exclusively talk
about Ford 9,2,8 n tractors.

The first thing the guys will
tell you is to buy a owners
manual.it can be ordered through
this site or at tsc ,new Holland
dealership...

Good luck with your project

9N built form 1939 to 1942. The first year built is where the modal comes from. Has I beam radius rod and a 3 speed transmission.
2N built form 1942 to 1947 again the first year built is the model number and they have a tube type radius rods and also a 3 speed transmission.
The 8N can have a front or side mount distributor depending on the year and they have a 4 speed. 8N built form 1948 to 1952. 1948 up till the early 1950 ones where front mount distributor and some time around May of 1950 they switched to the side mount

Well I was told It was a 9N The serial number is 5 digits that i can see and It does have the rounded Radius arms not the I beam style Thanks that info will come in handy. Right now Trying to get the tractor split to get motor on the brighter side of the shop to start the rebuild of the motor It had all 70 psi Compression when i got it but it ran good enough but the heat we have had in Montana this summer was too much for it.

Tube radius rods say a 2N or a mutt. Serial number on a 9N and 2N all start with 9N. Many people do not know there is a 2N to them there is the 9N and 8N no such thing as a2N

Well other then having to flip the monitor upside down it worked. Tube type again says 2N or a mutt made from more then one tractor. Had a friend a few years ago that had a mutt. The front of it was A late 8N as in side mount distributor but the rear was a 9N. Had the i-beam radios rods and the 9N 3 speed and axle trumpets did not have the 2N markings which is something else you can look for. On the axle trumpets if it is a latter 2N there should be 2N case right in the axle housings

What town are you from? I grew up in St. Regis, MT, a little town 33 miles from Idaho on I-90. Dad passed away last January and now my sisters and I have the farm. Hope to get back up there soon.

There is a lot of knowledge here, also is good help on the 'ford' forum. It's down the list a little ways.
