Starting problem

I converted a to30 ferguson tractor to a 12 volt system. It started before I installed the 12 volt system, but now turns over, but doesn't fire. I followed the installation diagram provided with the kit from yesterday's tractors. Any suggestions? Thankse

If they told you to install an extra resistor, temporarily short/jumper across it & see if it starts. Several of those resistors have recently been found to provide too much resistance .

Thanks for the info. If that is the problem should I just put in a new 12 volt regular and get rid of the resistor?

suppose that you meant 12v coil? That is easiest & cleanest approach.

I took out the generator and installed a new 12 volt alternator. Ran a wire from the new alternator to the ammeter. Ran a wire from the other side of the ammeter to the solenoid. Removed regulator, rewired with a resistor between the original 6 volt coil and the ignition. Put a new 12 volt battery in with a negative ground.
