Case 580B backhoe dipper cylinder

Good morning everybody....I'm an 80+ year old man who is in trouble repairing the dipper cylinder on my 1974 Case 580B backhoe. I got the cylinder off the hoe, the cylinder disassembled, a new seal kit on hand, BUT can't get the 1-1/8" rod bolt out. I have tried everything. I only have a 800 ft/lb air torch tool and it won't budge this bolt. I have heated up the bolt head to red hot thinking perhaps there is Lock-tight on the threads. Was told there might be. This heat should have melted any if there was some. I have used much "force" in using a box end 1-13/16 wrench and sledge hammer. A 4 ft. pipe wrench on a 1-13/16 socket and a sledge hammer. I've been on the assumption the bolt is a right hand thread....COULD I BE WRONG? No where does the Case manual state it's anything but a right hand thread. Does anyone have any suggestions how to loosen this 1-1/8 bolt? (short of taking it to a Case dealer) I do not want to damage the hex head of the bolt. I have the rod clamp securely in a large vise by the eyebolt end. The bolt end is supported securely horizontally. I suppose I could melt the bolt head off and hopefully remove the rest of it. And then buy a new bolt. What is my problem?

:(

some have to be taken into a hydraulics company because of the excessive torque needed IIRC 2-3000 ft lbs.. They use a hydraulically powered machine to loosen and tighten the nut.

Thanks Dune: I guess I'll have to do this....sometimes I just won't give up. I've rebuilt/fixed several pieces of equipment over the years and most of the time I'm successful. But then there are those days.

Resealed a 580m extenda hoe cylinder at work one
time and with a 1" gun heat heat and more heat
couldn't get it off. Finally took it too a machine shop
and they got it out. Can't remember exactly what
they did but I definitely remember wishing I would
have taken it to them sooner

I had the same problem on a newer case backhoe. I hung on a six foot pipe and could not break it loose. Ended up taking it to a hydraulics shop.

Good evening jtwat: Well, today I "broke down" and took the dissembled dipper cylinder to my "favorite" Case dealer for him to continue disassembly, (removing the 1-1/8" rod bolt), and reassembling the unit. I had already disassembled the cylinder, cleaned it up and bought the new seal kit. The dealer agreed to use my purchased seal kit, which was considerably cheaper than the one they used on another previous cylinder rebuilt I had done by them last month.. I'm happy. Guess I'll never attempt to disassemble another rod bolt. Live and learn. This was my first attempt at trying to remove a rod bolt. This dipper cylinder is the largest on a Case 580B it having a cylinder length of about 45" with a 2" dia. rod.

All's well that ends well. Thanks for all the comments. :D

I have a 1" impact. 1600 ft. Lbs. It took
it right off on my 480E. Just did the
boom cylinder. No problem. You just need
a 10' cheater.
