I have a 2940 steering cylinder that I took apart using the tip TRACTORMAN NC Posted 3/10/10.
I got the seals in, but how do I get the snap ring that was removed thru the hd line hole back on??? It seems impossible to get it back on thru the hole?

Help!!

If that's like the lift cylinder on a combine, there's a beveled groove ahead of the notch that the snap ring goes in to. Put it in that beveled notch, slice the rod in,then reach in with a small screwdriver and work it back in to the groove.

Thanks to all.
That helped some. The rod itself has some bevel to it. You get the ring in as fat as it will go (upright). Put lube on shaft, and insert the piston in until you can see the ring over any part of the bevel. Then with gusto pry the ring over the bevel as far as you can. Keep the the screwdriver jammed against the ring. Very slowly rotate the rod end while trying to feed the ring on. When you can see all the ring is over the bevel, gently tap the end of rod while keeping a screwdriver jammed against the ring.
If lucky the ring will pop into groove. Hard to get any light into the hole, but a must to make this work. Much trial and error---about 5 hours total.
