Lahman Big Dipper 40 Skid Steer hydraulic oil level

I picked up a Lahman 40 skid steer, it needed some maintenance, so I'm going through everything. The last thing on the list is changing the hydraulic oil and filters.

I have the filters, and I have drained the hydraulic oil. It was gold color and had a slight smell of gear oil.

I was told, if its gold in color I could use a light weight motor oil. Well, that lightweight motor oil was more expensive than some AW32 hydraulic oil which, if I read correctly, is about 10W equivalent in motor oil.

Now the next thing is, how much oil does this thing need? I came across something somewhere on the web that said to fill the tank so the level is about an inch over the filter intake holes.

Is this correct?

The level in the tank before I drained it was about an inch over the top of the filter.... I've drained something around 40 gallons of oil.

So, the questions are --- will AW32 hydraulic oil work in this skid steer and what is the recommended fill capacity for this Lahman?

Thanks

The concern with using AW (anti wear) oil is the anti wear additives are not compatible with yellow metals, (brass, bronze, etc). That may be why engine oil was recommended.

The RO oil (rust/oxidation) should be safe for all metals, but would not have the wear protection.

Might need to do more research to find the original recommendation.
