Suburbanite 25 Riding Mower

Hello all. I got in for repair a Suburbanite 25 riding mower made by The E.T. Rugg Co. It's a model # 557 S with a 5 HP Briggs engine. Questions: Do these little riders have brakes? This one runs very well, and with the 3 speed transmission it's like a little rocket. I haven't found anything that resembles brakes. If ever there were a mower that needs brakes....this is it. I think that the vintage is in the 60's and early riding mowers, sometimes, failed to have certain safety things like brakes. Also, has anyone see a breakdown for parts for these mowers? A picture is worth a thousand words.

Cannot say for sure on that one but most had a disk sort of brake which was part of the transmission which while they where there most didn't work well if at all

I will look around the trans. I have seem shoes, bands and disc brakes on a lot of other riders, however they were generally on the live axle. Thanks for your input Old.

I have messed with a good many old riders and if it has a brake at all good chance there will be a disk about 2 inch or so in diameter on the side of the rear end/Transmission which is the break. But I have also seen many that had a forward/reverse type transmission with no brake

All mine have band brakes, some have a little disc brake. Pictured is a 1966 Wheel Horse with the band above the axle if you can see it.
