I took my steering column apart down to the worm gear and then put it back together. Turning it dry it works great but with the motor running the power steering fluid pushes it automatically turning it to the far right or left. What might the problem be?

Not sure exactly how your steering is designed, but somewhere there is a directional valve that sends the pressure to the right side of the cylinder to assist the steering. Something is wrong in that area, either it is assembled wrong, plumbed wrong, got trash in a valve, or....

A shop manual would be a valuable investment.

Here is a valve, does yours have anything like this? If so look it over, be sure it is installed correctly and clean before buying one!
