Oil and grease to use on a 46 Farmall A

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what type of oil I should use on my restored 1946 Farmall A. I use it for pulling a gang reel mower and light yard work. It gets light to medium use. What about SAE 20 non-detergent?

Also, what kind of grease should I use?

Just use a 15W-40 Diesel rated Rotella or Delvac oil.

A standard gun grease should work on the zerks.

In My Farmall BA which is half B and Half A I use O'Reilly's brand 20W-50 oil in the engine and that is what I use in all but one of my engines and I have 30 plus. As for grease I buy the common run of the mill grease gun tube grease. In the transmissions/rear end I use the 303 UTF but I also use that in all my tractors.

Of course if you live north of me you might want to use a 10W-40. I live at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri

Why on EARTH would anyone use non-detergent oil in an engine today!? I wish people would forget it ever
existed! Summer I use 15W-40 Rotella T, or Mobil Delvac is good too. Winter a 10W-30 would be best.

Any good lithium based gun grease works fine on the zerks. I use Lubriplate 1200-2 in 14 Oz tubes.

I'm assuming since your tractor has been restored that all the years of grease and dirt are gone so you don't have to worry about what detergent oil will do in freeing up junk. There's a good reason why non
detergent oil aren't used much these days - its just not as good.

Only if you so happen to have it on hand so as to get rid of it. Sure would not be worth using it that way if you had to go out and buy some LOL
