460 Bull Pinion Shaft retainer

Hey everyone, long time peruser of this forum, first time poster...

I am doing the brakes on my 460 diesel utility. I need to replace one of the bull pinion shaft oil seals. I know on some of the IH tractors with this style of brakes you can get the oil seal out without having to remove the retainer (the inside friction surface for the brakes) from the rear case. However, there is no room between the retainer and the splines on the shaft, so it's definitely not coming out that way. The retainer plate is "loose" in that I can wiggle it a little, but it will not come off.

So... How do I get it off? I am thinking about putting a gear puller on it, but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something.

I did try to search for this topic, but couldn't find it... Sorry if there's already a post.

Thank you.

Thank you dieseltech, I thought that is what was going on, but it really doesn't want to come out with the pry bars... No harm in trying the puller then, eh? It definitely is loose.
